I’m excited to announce that I have joined the Board of Directors of the National Capital Area Skeptics (NCAS). NCAS is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, educational and scientific membership organization that “advocates for science and reason, actively promoting the scientific method, rational inquiry, and education.” For decades, NCAS has been a hub for those in the Washington, D.C. region (and beyond) who care about scientific skepticism.
As founder of the Behrens Science Museum, I see a lot of overlap between these two roles. The museum’s mission is “to be a steward of science and the scientific method, describing, demonstrating, and defending science and promoting scientific skepticism and critical thinking.” NCAS has long embodied these same goals through their public lectures, Skeptical Eye newsletter, and community outreach. Joining their board gives me another way to support and advocate for skepticism and science education.
I look forward to working with and learning from the dedicated NCAS leadership team and contributing wherever I can. There are great opportunities to share ideas and collaborate on skeptical initiatives through social media, public outreach, and organizing lectures and events. I believe this broader involvement in the skeptical community will strengthen my work on the museum as well.
Thank you to the NCAS members and Board for this opportunity. I am excited for what lies ahead and will keep the museum supporters updated on upcoming projects and events related to this new role.
